You Can Win by Shiv Khera

"Winners don't do different things, they do things differently"

The above quote is the theme of this book. Probably I read this book late, but it is never too late to read good books. This is a self-help book, and I have heard people saying, " hey, I don't like self-help craps, because they actually don't work in real life." Well, this is my second self-help book, the first book that I read was Dell Carnegie's ," How to Win Friends and Influence People" translated in Hindi named Lok Vyavhaar. I found Carnegie's book quite pragmatic, persuading and full of the doings of great people.
.
You Can Win is somewhat different from the above noted book, besides motivating and building confidence, it talks about values, integrity and character, without these components any success is momentary. This book doesn't teach you how to win by hook or crook, how to be diplomatic with ulterior motives, or how to impress people, but it helps to get a vision of where we are and where we ought to be.
.
Like other self-help books, this also deals with psycho-analytic discussion of human behavior through cause and effect theory. In thirteen chapters, the last three seemed to me interesting, in the 'Subconscious Mind' chapter, the author tells, " most of our behavior comes as a result of conditioning. We all are being conditioned  continuously by the environment and the media and we start behaving like robots. It is our responsibility to condition ourselves in positive manner". Ideas of auto-suggestion and visualization are also given for quitting and forming habits. The chapter 'Goal Setting' clarifies very well the differences among Dreams, Wishes, Desires and Goals. Goals are dreams with a deadline, clear direction and an action plan. The last chapter 'Values and Vision' seems most important because it says to judge your value system, means if anyone is slightly doubtful about his values, he should think what his  parents would think if they found what he had been doing for years, and if this doesn't work; think how it would feel to you and the world if the next day your doings become the headlines....
.
So I don't think that the self-help book doesn't help, no one is perfect, I am sure the writer of this book must not be perfect, but getting  perfection is like a never ending journey, we should learn to learn, not from only books, but also from lives (from ours as well as from others), and such books are just like the thesaurus of the doings of great men, so obviously are useful, read them.
